A NOD FOR RCH

An annual fundraiser for the Royal Columbian Hospital, which serves the Tri-Cities, injected more than $280,000 at a gala last month. More than 400 guests - including B.C.'s health minister Margaret MacDiarmid, who shared her story about being treated at RCH for rare and serious meningitis infection in November 2009 - attended the hospital foundation's SHINE event at the Vancouver Convention Centre. "It is amazing to see what we can accomplish together," said Adrienne Bakker, president and CEO of the foundation, which raises millions of dollars annually to help fund priority equipment needs, facility enhancements, research, innovation and education at RCH.

AFRICAN GEAR

A Coquitlam moving company last month helped to supply nearly 2,000 pieces of furniture for classrooms in Africa. Williams Moving & Storage obtained the educational pieces during a move at Capilano University in North Vancouver. The surplus tables and chairs were then passed on to Rotary World Help, who will ship the items overseas.
