THAT'S UGLY!

More than 300 people donned their ugly sweaters last week for the first Lafarge Lake run to raise cash for the Now That's Ugly Society, benefitting the Children's Wish Foundation. The Coquitlam run was one of three initiatives for the group (the other two are a party and buttons), which aims to collect $30,000 for the cause.

PREZ AWARD

James McFarlane, president of Port Coquitlam's International Submarine Engineering, was honoured this month with the David Packard Distinguished Lecturer award from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Institute. McFarlane was handed the recognition from MBARI president and CEO Chris Scholin.

FOR BABES

A $41,725 donation from the TB Vets Charitable Foundation will help babies breathe easier while at Royal Columbian Hospital, which serves the Tri-Cities. Foundation president and CEO Adrienne Bakker this month accepted the cheque from Andrew Walsh and Kandys Herola to buy a jet ventilator for RCH's Variety Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

mSUMMIT

A conference organized by the founder of Coquitlam Mommy and Reinventing M Network had a "Dragon" on her hands this month. Arlene Dickinson from CBC-TV's Dragons' Den (as well as CEO of Venture Communications and YouInc.com) dropped in to the third annual mSummit in Vancouver to speak with Coquitlam resident Meghan Simington and other mompreneurs.
