Port Coquitlam's Arctic Meats and Sausage this month held its second customer appreciation day, hosting a barbecue to raise funds for Share Family and Community Services - the Tri-Cities' social services agency. The business brought in $470 on Aug. 18, adding to the total from its first customer appreciation day in June that collected $370 for the charity.
RING A DING DING
Crossroads Hospice Society's development officer Anna Wilczewski, executive director Barb Henham and financial administrator Linda Whitney received a cheque for $6,280 this month from Linda Jackson, a retired Telus employee who presented the funds on behalf of her company's charitarible giving program. "We are so grateful for the continued support from Telus employees. Their generosity is evident year after year," Henham said in a news release this week.
A number of Port Coquitlam green thumbs will be honoured next month with 16th annual Pride of PoCo Garden Awards. A new feature of this year's contest was the inclusion of a before-and-after category, with the award going to Zahid and Hafsa Shaheem. Other winners are:
for front and back garden, Bruce and Teresa Lees, Carl and Eurilda Larsen, and Luigi and Rosemarie Visocchi;
for front yard, Linda and Wayne Robins, Heather and Mick McMitchell, and Laura and Michael Thomas;
for back yard, Pat and Arthur McGill, Fran and Norman Skinner, and Ben and Hilary McQuilling;
for backyard townhome, Myra Antaya and Ken Wills;
for front yard townhome, Jami Watson;
and for balcony garden, Donna Pisoney.
