HOCKEY HONOURS
A pair of Coquitlam Express alumni have scored weekly honours from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
Cole Huggins, a freshman goalie at Minnesota State, was named rookie of the week after posting a 1-0 overtime win against Bowling Green where he made 33 saves and was named second star.
And Alex Petan notched two goals and an assist and netted the overtime winner as Michigan Tech swept a two-game set against Michigan State. The Delta native leads the Huskies in points on the season with four goals and two assists.
In three seasons with the Express, Petan scored 54 goals and 74 assists for 128 points in 155 games. He recorded 38-50-88 in the 2011/12 season on his way to the Coastal Conference MVP award.
NEW CHAMBER
The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce named this week its incoming board of directors.
Janine Davies was announced as the chair while Rick Pasin is first vice chair. The second vice chair job will go to Gillian Kirk and the third vice chair to Bryan Hyndman; Trevor Sutherland is treasurer. And the board directors are: Rick Duff, Desiree Dupuis, Tereza McDermid, Randy Webster, Lisa Landry, Tom Lewis, Ann Soucie and Carlo Zarrillo.
The board will begin its duties on Jan. 1.
