The annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup in Port Moody is getting a little wet this year with the introduction of a clean-up by kayak or canoe.
While as many as 80 volunteers or more are expected to scour the shoreline by land on Sept. 21, water-borne litter pickers will be digging detritus out of the inlet on Sept. 28 In cooperation with Rocky Point Kayak.
The local business is teaming up with the Port Moody Ecological Society for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup - the canoe and kayak version - on Saturday, Sept. 28 between 9 and 11 a.m. at Rocky Point Park and members of the public are welcome.
PMES president Sandra Niven said people can bring their own water craft or rent one from Rocky Point Kayak.
"There's areas that you just can't walk," she said. "There's tidal dangers and mud dangers. It's easier to go by canoe."
People wishing to rent a craft from Rocky Point Kayak, should cite GCSC so they can be tracked.
Jamie Cuthbert, owner of the business, said he's happy to support a project that keeps the shoreline clean.
Meanwhile, volunteers are still needed for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup that takes place Saturday, Sept. 21. Port Moody Ecological Society will be organizing a clean-up of the shoreline around Port Moody Inlet. Volunteers are needed for registration and sorting among other things.
