Participants can earn school volunteer hours, meet new people and make a difference in their community.

In PMPL's Book Buddies program, teens aged 14 years and older can volunteer to be a mentor to young readers in Grades 2 to 4 and help them improve their reading skills. These teens work one-on-one with their little buddies, encouraging them to read using great books, fun literacy games and activities in a relaxed and safe group environment.

At the Tech Cafe, teens 16 and older can earn volunteer hours helping adults gain confidence with a variety of technologies such as tablets, computers and eBook readers. Teens will work one-to-one with individuals in a group setting to teach basic use of these technologies and troubleshoot simple technology issues.

All volunteers will receive training and learn customer service and instructional skills. Volunteer credit can be applied to high school graduation requirements, or used on a resumé.

Volunteer application forms are available at the library or online at library.portmoody.ca/audiences/teens. The deadline for applications is Sept. 19.
