Hey buddy, can you spare a book?
Terry Fox Library in Port Coquitlam is offering its Reading Buddies program in the new year, pairing teens with younger kids looking to improve their reading.
For teens: If you're in Grades 8 to 12, you can volunteer as a reading buddy to a child in kindergarten to Grade 3 and help them improve their reading skills. This is an opportunity to gain volunteer hours for your community work experience requirement and will look good on a resume. Teens may pick up an application for the upcoming session at the Terry Fox Library information desk. Teens and little buddies will be reading together Mondays, Jan. 14 to Feb. 25, from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.
For parents: If you have a son or daughter in kindergarten to Grade 3 who would like to be a better reader, Reading Buddies is one way to get extra reading practice. The program is free and your child will have a chance to read with one of the teen volunteers in a supportive environment. Pick up an application form at the Terry Fox Library info desk.
