A local car dealer is putting Coquitlam Public Library back on wheels.
Metro Ford, located in Port Coquitlam, has provided a van as a temporary replacement of the library's colourful Book Bus, which was destroyed May 3 after a fire started in the engine compartment. The van will accommodate a smaller collection than the book mobile but users will be able to check out reading materials and movies, pick up requested items and return borrowed material.
The library van will visit Tri-City Family Place at 3435 Victoria Dr. in northeast Coquitlam on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. People living in the Burquitlam area can check out the van at Cottonwood Park, located on the corner of Aspen and Adler, on Saturdays between 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
A longer-term solution for the Book Bus is also being investigated by the library board but will require government and community support, according to a press release.
The library book bus has been serving Coquitlam residents since 2009 and has proved popular with young people - more than 80% of items checked out are for kids and teens.
Metro Ford has a history of community involvement, including as longtime sponsor of Coquitlam Metro Ford Soccer Club.
