FRIDAY, APRIL 8

MOVIE NIGHT
Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner star in The Immigrant, presented by the Port Moody Film Society at the Inlet Theatre tonight at 7:30 p.m. Cotillard plays Ewa Cybulski who, along with her sister, Magda, sail from Poland to New York in search of the American dream. Upon landing at Ellis Island, however, the sisters are separated and Ewa is quickly ensnared in a nightmarish world of prostitution, but finds hope in the form of her captor's cousin. GRIM AND FISCHER
An aging granny takes on the Grim Reaper in this award-winning full face mask comedy at the Evergreen Cultural Centre. It's a tender telling of an epic journey as one woman's fight for survival takes on imaginative heights in a showdown with the man in black, presented by multi-award winning physical theatre company Wonderland, based in Portland, Oregon. SATURDAY, APRIL 9

TIME FOR A RUN
Make that one big, long run. It's the Diez Vista 50km Trail Run, starting and finishing at White Pine Beach at Sasamat Lake in Belcarra Regional Park. Participants will be scrambling up and down trails around Sasamat and Buntzen Lakes as they tackle the Diez Vistas ridge, but you can kick back, take in the view and cheer the athletes on at the start/finish line or at aid stations along the course; visit diezvista50.ca for full details.

IN THE TRENCHES
Learn about the heroism behind the Battle of Vimy Ridge in the Port Moody Station Museum's latest instalment of Trench Talks at 1 p.m. Guest speaker John Goheen will talk about the importance of the 1917 battle during the First World War, followed by a re-enactment of a Vimy Ridge photo. THE GAMES ARE COMING
Did you know Coquitlam is hosting the 55+ BC Games in September? Find out what all the fuss is about at a family-friendly event at 640 Poirier St. Tony Prophet and Diamond Bull Karaoke will provide entertainment and there will be balloon making, face painting, a Kinsmen barbecue and more, from 1 to 4 p.m.

LAUGHING MATTER
Help raise money for B.C. families affected by childhood cancer — and have a laughing good time doing it — at the Gaby Davis Foundation's comedy night gala. Comedians John Cullen, Sunee Dhaliwal, Chris James and Katie Burrel will be on stage at the Port Moody Inlet Theatre; additional highlights include appetizers, wine, silent auction and more. SUNDAY, APRIL 10

FAST BLASTER
Get out for a run along the forest trails of Coquitlam's Mundy Park in the Fast Blaster, MEC Vancouver's third of seven events in its 2016 race series. Participants can choose from a 5km or 10km race, starting at Spani Pool and running counter-clockwise in the park. It's not the Barkley Marathons, but it's a great chance to discover a new running location. Event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., cost is $15. Register online before April 8 at events.mec.ca.

FAMILY DAY
It's the spring edition of Place des Arts' Family Day, so get ready to get the whole family creative starting at 1:30 p.m. Tour the exhibits, then drop in to the Leonore Peyton Salon for a springtime ensembles concert. Practice free-flowing watercolours and inking, create robot heads using paints and old cassette tapes and collaborate on a large-scale art project. This time, they're putting on a family-friendly show called The Middle of Everywhere, in which Winston and 11-year-old Penny meet at a bus stop and end up on a wild journey through time and space.
