CHIP IT
Shed the last vestiges of Christmas by hauling your tree - denuded of all lights, decorations and tinsel, of course - to one of this weekend's tree chipping events. In Coquitlam there are several options: Kinsmen Club and 1st Kinsmen Scout Group are at Town Centre Stadium parking lot A from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (also tomorrow), Friends of Mundy Park Heritage Society are chipping at the parking lot off Hillcrest Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (also tomorrow) and the Scouts Francophones de Maillardville are at Canadian Tire (1200 Seguin Dr., near Ikea) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In Port Coquitlam, the fire fighters are chipping at the #1 Fire Hall (1725 Broadway St.), minimum $5 donation for the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow. Port Moody's fire fighters are also chipping for the Burn Fund, at the Inlet Centre fire hall (150 Newport Dr.) today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., where you can also get hot chocolate, coffee and vehicle vacuuming. Be sure to catch the fire fighters demonstrating how quickly a dry Christmas tree can go up in flames.
RECYCLE IT
Still looking at piles of toy boxes, gift wrap and post-Boxing Day shopping bags? Bring them down to Port Moody's centralized recycling day at the Heritage Mountain community centre (200 Panorama Pl.) or Kyle Centre (125 Kyle St.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Keep the excess garbage at home, please.
MORE HOCKEY
Looking for more live hockey? Look no further. The Port Moody Panthers will be battling the Delta Icehawks tonight in a regular season game at the PoMo Arena (300 Ioco Rd.). Be there for the face-off at 7:45 p.m. Visit www.portmoodypanthers.com for all the latest stats and league standings.
