GIRLS NIGHT OUT

The event, billed as an "evening of comedy by women, for women" takes place Friday, Oct. 3 at Port Moody city hall (100 Newport Dr.). It is sponsored by Scotiabank, which will match funds from tickets bought through their St. John's Street branch (across the street from PMAC); the branch is accepting cash payments only. ART RETROSPECTIVE

Colin Craig's love of nature shines through his artwork, which is on display at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village (2253 Leigh Square, PoCo) until Oct. 27. Paintings in A Silent Voice: A Retrospective of Work by Colin Craig capture a moment in time, silently recorded by an artist bearing witness to his natural surroundings. Check out the exhibit at today's opening reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Visit www.portcoquitlam.ca/leighsquare for more information.

GIVE IT A SHOT

Curious what all that new equipment at Gates Park (2575 Wilson Ave., PoCo) is all about? Pull on your sneakers and try the outdoor gym at a free orientation session starting at 10:30 a.m. The more robust equipment replaced the old outdoor gym and includes exercise bikes, chest press, rowing machine, parallel bars, air walker and more, as well as specialized equipment for people in wheelchairs. The gym is suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels (kids under 12 require adult supervision). Register for the event by calling 604-927-7946. Visit www.pocomotion.ca for more information.

GET IN THE GROOVE

The Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) hosts musical powerhouse Brickhouse, with guests Gary Comeau & the Voodoo Allstars. Known among those in the live-music know as a blues-funk hit, the band's shows are not to be missed (as long as you don't forget your dancing shoes). Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $35/$30/$15 at 604-927-6555 or www.evergreenculturalcentre.ca.

SUNDAY, OCT. 5

SPOOKY FAMILY FUN
