MOVIE NIGHT

The Port Moody Film Society presents Once Were Enemies at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., PoMo) at 7:30 p.m. The Canadian documentary brings together American and Japanese survivors from a Second World War battle fought in September 1944 at Peleliu near the Philippines/New Guinea. Now in their 80s, the soldiers relive their difficult past and find common ground. The filmmaker will also host a Q&A after the movie. Visit www.pmfilm.ca for more information.

FOCUS ON ART

Check out works by 30 Art Focus Artists' Association members in their 21st annual show and sale at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village (2253 Leigh Sq., PoCo). There will be about 100 works on the gallery walls and a wide range or original works available for purchase. The show opens today and runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

VOTING DAY

It's finally here, folks, your chance to have a say in how your city is run for the next four years. All you have to do is read up on the candidates at tricitynews.com/municipalelection, decide who most reflects your views and vote - because you care about your community, right? There are dozens of volunteers at polling stations ready to make the process as efficient as possible (visit your city website to find the closest spot). All are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

FALL FAIRS

The Assumption Church (2255 Fraser Ave., PoCo) hosts its annual fall fair from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., complete with garage sale goodies, crafts, baked goods, silent auction, children's games and a bouncy castle, cakewalk and much more. Come Lake United Church (1110 King Albert Ave., Coquitlam) hosts a Christmas Marketplace from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. featuring jewelry, gifts, jams and preserves, a lunch room, silent auction and more. FAMILY DAY

Roll up your sleeves and get the whole family into the creative spirit at the Evergreen Cultural Centre's (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) Family Day: Unpaved Paradise, celebrating Erin McSavaney's exhibit Some Intersections. Participants can create "road" maps that trade asphalt for green grass or canals of clean running water. Use your imaginations to dream up a car-free city in which parking lots are parks at this free drop-in event from 1 to 4 p.m. Visit www.evergreenculturalcentre.ca for more info.

FREE SKATE

Westminster Savings hosts a free skate the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam), complete with free skate and helmet rentals, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. There's a limit of up to 200 participants, and wristbands will be given out starting at 1:30 p.m.

CELEBRATE SALMON

Gather the family and head to Hyde Creek for the 15th annual Hyde Creek Salmon Festival. Oh, and did we mention the crowd-pleasing salmon barbecue? Parking is limited and visitors are encouraged to walk or ride to the event. Get complete details at www.hydecreek.org/festival.htm.
