EN FRANCAIS

The Port Moody Film Society presents a spy thriller for its October offering. Farewell (France, 2009) stars Diane Kruger, Willem Dafoe and Guillaume Canet and tells the true-life story of French intelligence personnel who alert the United States about a Soviet spy operation during the Cold War. The flick is in French with English subtitles. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody). Admission is $5 at the door with a $5 annual membership. Visitpmfilm.ca.

VAMPROV

Second Storey Theatre (201- 2550 Shaughnessy St., Port Coquitlam) will host Vamprov - vampires versus humans - on Friday and Saturday nights this month. The kid-friendly Halloween show will lead the audience through stories, songs and games. Attendees are encouraged to dress up. STAGE 43

Coquitlam's Stage 43 Theatrical Society launches its new season with a psychological thriller, titled Dead Serious. Directed by Maureen Robinson, the play runs until Oct. 20 at Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) at 8 p.m. with a Sunday matinee. JUST SHRED IT

Seniors can protect their identity and safely dispose of their paper documents at a free shredding event, sponsored by Glen Pine 50-Plus Society and Home Instead, from 10 a.m. to noon at Glen Pine Pavilion (1200 Glen Pine Ct.). The paper will be trashed onsite by Best Shredding. Volunteers will be on hand. Call 604-927-6940.

SPOOKY IOCO

Rebel Haunt Theatre presents Hometown, an interactive play set in the 1930s, at 1 and 3 p.m. as part of the Ioco Days Festival that celebrates the townsite. And on Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m., bring out the family for Ioco Ghost Town Days to travel in an Model-A car or ride a pony. Kids can also decorate a pumpkin, get their faces painted and play carnival games while adults enjoy the music from a bluegrass band and barbershop quartet. The Port Moody Heritage Society event, sponsored in part by Canadian Heritage, runs at Ioco Road and 1st Avenue on both days. The cost is by donation. Anyone missing the sound of skates on the ice during the NHL players' lockout? CUT-A-THON

Have your locks chopped off for charity as Fuller Hair Salon and Spa in Coquitlam hosts a cut-a-thon to aid the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The event, called Fuller Hair Cares, will see staff and students from the London School of Hairdressing in Vancouver volunteering their time and talent to the cause. TAKE A HIKE
