SPORTS DAY

It's not just for kids anymore. Adults can get in on the sports day fun during ParticiPACTION's Sports Day in Canada. In Coquitlam, the festivities kick off with a Tennis Try It at Town Centre Park (1620 Pipeline Rd.), from 4 to 6 p.m. On Saturday, head to Planet Ice (2300 Rocket Way) for Come Try Ringette, from 1 to 3 p.m., where kids aged five to 12 can do ringette drills and games. On Sunday, the Port Coquitlam recreation complex (2150 Wilson Ave.) hosts a Jersey Day event, where anyone wearing a sports jersey skates and rents for free from noon to 2 p.m. Visit sportsday.cbc.ca for more information.

INDIE DARLING

The doyen of Canada's hipster indie music scene, and a Juno nominee, Hannah Georgas graces the Port Moody Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.) stage tonight at 8 p.m. for the Port Moody Arts Festival. LIVING LIBRARY

Learn from a living book at the Coquitlam Public Library/Douglas College Living Library event, where you can have a chance to spend 20 minutes talking with an expert in a variety of subjects ("books" include a Muslim community leader, an archaeologist, an Olympic medallist, a mystery writer, a student of Indian classical music and many more). FALL FESTIVUS

Henderson Place Mall (1163 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) hosts a Mid-Autumn Festival from noon to 4 p.m., featuring a lantern-making competition, calligraphy workshop, games, face painting, bouncy castle and more. Parents with a Henderson Place receipt get a free activity passport for each accumulative total of $25 spent. Call 604-552-6130 for details.

HATS OFF

Bust a gut at tonight's PoMo Arts Festival ticket - the Hats Off Comedy Night featuring Ivan Decker and Sudden Death Improv at Club 119 at the Port Moody Legion (2513 Clarke St.). Tickets are $20/$25 (19+ event).

RIVER RUN

Celebrate World Rivers Day at Coquitlam River Park (1190 Shaughnessy St.), where the whole family can learn about - and maybe even see - local salmon runs, nearby trails and habitat enhancement sites from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tours run rain or shine every half hour, with the last tour starting at 1 p.m. In Port Coquitlam the Rivers & Trails Festival is at Lions Park (2300 Lions Way) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Peace Park (1470 Kebet Way) from noon to 4 p.m. There will be pancakes, worm composting, a river clean-up and more at Lions and at Peace Park, a paddlewheeler river tour, live music and crafts. ARTS FEST CLOSER

Wrap up the PoMo Arts Festival with a family story. Acclaimed storyteller Abegael Fisher-Lang will read interactive stories from around the world (suitable for ages five and up) at the PoMo Public Library from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Be sure to stop by the Galleria for the Coquitlam Weavers Guild's Spin-In Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m.
