The weather may look a bit sketchy this weekend, but don't let it keep you from enjoying plenty of family fun events this weekend.

Friday, June 15

FUN FRIDAY

It's a fun fair kind of day at Moody elementary (2717 St. Johns St., PoMo), complete with a barbecue, games, cake walk, a mini-golf course, pony rides, bouncy castle and more, from 4 to 8 p.m. Bring the kids, and a non-perishable food item for the Share food bank.

A BANNER YEAR

Join artist Joy Kirkwood for a banner project honouring Place des Arts' 40th anniversary. Attend a workshop and give Kirkwood feedback as she prepares 12 new banners, which will go up around Heritage Square later this fall. The sessions are in the atrium today (Friday) and Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. Catch her painting the banners in Heritage Square Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

POETRY IN MOTION

A unique show is taking place in and around the grounds of the Port Moody Arts Centre tonight and tomorrow, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Scavenger Heart, a "micro-epic" play, is described as a highly physical, poetic show that takes the audience on a journey as the characters discover the mysteries of the human heart. Half the proceeds go to the PoMo Arts Centre Society.

Saturday, June 16

DAISY DAY

Celebrate the Daisy Day Festival with the Austin Heights Business Improvement Association in the Safeway parking lot (1033 Austin Ave., Coquitlam), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A free pancake breakfast will be served from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and the day will be filled with entertainment, prizes, kids' activities and more.

GREAT GARAGE SALE

Dig for hidden gems at the garage, book and bake sale to benefit Community Volunteer Services for Seniors at the Wilson Centre (2150 Wilson Ave., PoCo) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be household items, books, baby gear, plants and more. Money raised supports CVSS programs like shop-by-phone for groceries, a visiting program and telephone reassurance to isolated seniors in the Tri-Cities.

SHRED IT

Got old tax papers or other important documents you need to get rid of? Get them shredded at one of these two events: the Rotary Shred-a-Thon (outside PoMo city hall) runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and raises money for Rotary's charitable programs. In PoCo, head to St. Catherine's Anglican Church (at Trinity United, corner of Shaughnessy and Prairie Avenue, PoCo) for a community fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Minimum donation is $20 (two boxes).

FAMILY FISHING DAY

Get a jump on Father's Day festivities at the Lafarge Lake Family Fishing Day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lake will be stocked and ready for all the amateur anglers, there's no licence needed and it's all free family fun. Volunteers will be on hand to teach some of the finer points of fishing. For more info, visit www.coquitlam.ca or call 604-473-1616.

CAR SHOW

Today marks the 17th annual KMS Tools Coquitlam Charity Show & Shine, featuring more than 200 pre-1972 vehicles. Show cars travel from all corners of the province to strut their stuff as they angle for thousands of dollars in prizes, for both exhibitors and spectators. There will be free smokies and live music at the event, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at KMS Tools (110 Woolridge St., Coquitlam, across from Ikea).

FOOD BANK PARTY

Ink & Honey Tattoos hosts a barbecue party from noon to 4 p.m. to raise food and money for the Share food bank. Join the fun, bring a non-perishable food item (or cash), and pick up a unique tank top from Stiffy's Board Shop; designed by local artists, the tanks will sell for $25, with $15 from each sale going to the food bank.

BRICK IN THE WALL

Catch Belcarra's Toby Beaulieu as he performs a "Pink Floyd-ish" computer-animated event called Orion, at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody) from 8 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 at the PoMo Arts Centre or by phone at 604-931-2008, or $15 at the door.

DAY FOR DAD

Celebrate Father's Day by planning a day full of family fun. Kick it off with breakfast in bed, followed by a hike in the woods. Finish it off by firing up the barbecue, and toasting Dad for being the great guy that he is.
