MECCA BOUND

The Port Moody Film Society screens Le Grand Voyage at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.) at city hall at 7:30 p.m. The award-winning drama (France/Morocco) tells the story of Reda who is summoned to accompany his father on a pilgrimage to Mecca. XMAS SHOPPING

Get a head start on your Christmas shopping by visiting Archbishop Carney regional secondary school (1335 Dominion Ave., Port Coquitlam) today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for its annual craft fair. WHITECAPS

U16 and U18 soccer players with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play residency matches at Percy Perry Stadium at Coquitlam Town Centre Park (off Pinetree Way), starting at noon. CLAY TALK

Ceramics crafter Otto Kamensek - the artist-in-residence at the Port Moody Arts Centre - will lead a talk, titled One Man's Journey Towards Art Appreciation, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the facility (2425 St. John's St.). Kamensek is an emeritus member of the consumer advisory board at the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada and speaks about the relationship between health and art. A GO-GO

The Coquitlam Gogos host Rockin' for Africa from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the St. Laurence Anglican Church (825 St. Laurence St., Coquitlam) with dancing to the '50s, '60s and '70s music by the Chuck Gary Band. Door prizes, snacks and a cash bar are available. Proceeds will support the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. LEST WE FORGET

The Tri-City's three Legion branches will host their annual Remembrance Day services, starting at the cenotaphs at around 10:30 a.m. Coquitlam Legion members with branch 263 will parade from Como Lake middle school to the cenotaph on Veterans Way (east of Blue Mountain Park) before the wreaths are laid at 11 a.m.; afterward, lunch will be served in the Legion hall on Ridgeway Avenue. In Port Coquitlam, branch 133 members will have an indoor service at the Wilson Centre at 9:30 a.m. before parading down Wilson Avenue and Shaughnessy Street to Veterans Park (in front of PoCo city hall) at 10:30 a.m. for the cenotaph services. And in Port Moody, branch 119 members will have a 21-gun cannon salute by the Seymour Artillery at around 11 a.m. Afterward, the Grade 1 Simon Fraser Pipe and Drum Band will lead the parade of veterans and colour party into the Legion's Chip Kerr VC Memorial Auditorium. As well, there will be music and dance all afternoon.
