HISTORY WALK

Learn about the history of Port Coquitlam on a walk with Bryan Ness of the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society. The walk starts at 6 p.m. from Heritage at Leigh Square (2100-2253 Leigh Sq., behind PoCo city hall) and is open to all ages. Call 604-927-8403 or email [email protected].

GET IN EARLY

Need to suit up your kids for the next athletic season? KidSport Tri-Cities hosts its popular summer sale of used gear from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam). Admission is by donation or with an item for the Share food bank. Organizers of the bi-annual event hope to raise $25,000 to help kids from lower-income families play ball, soccer, lacrosse and hockey, etc. Visit kidsporttricities.com.

ART, NATURE

Mingle with artists, hear live music and take a walk through Minnekhada regional park in Coquitlam at the fifth annual Art in the Park festival, which runs Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission. A shuttle bus will run between the Quarry Road parking lot and the historic lodge. Visit minnekhada.ca.

POMO PARTY

Pack a picnic for Port Moody's all-day centennial celebrations at Rocky Point Park (off Murray Street). Starting at noon, enjoy live music (Charlotte Diamond at 12 p.m., The Pids with Steve Petit at 1:30 p.m., Wall Street at 3:30 p.m. and ABRA Cadabra at 8 p.m.) as well as children's activities and a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. CUPE Local 825 is sponsoring free swims in the Rocky Point Pool between 1 and 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Picnickers will also get a first look at the Judd House, an inflatable, interactive fire safety house unveiled by IAFF Local 2399. Meanwhile, the music for the 20-minute pyrotechnic show by Archangel Fireworks will be simulcasted live on CKPM 98.7 FM. The Homecoming Weekend party continues with a free outdoor concert at the Port Coquitlam recreation complex (2150 Wilson Ave.) starting at noon with the HitZone and followed by Atlantic Crossing at 1:30 p.m., Whiskey Jane at 3:30 p.m., Arrival at 5 p.m., U4 at 7 p.m. and Trooper at 8:45 p.m. Families can also take part in a festival at Leigh Square (beside Port Coquitlam city hall) with performances by Bobs and Lolo at 1 and 3 p.m. and Second Storey Theatre at 1:30 p.m. Arts and crafts will run from 2 to 3 p.m. Meanwhile, bowl for a buck at Port Coquitlam Bowl (2263 McAllister Ave.), which is hosting a charity event - with proceeds going to Share - from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit portcoquitlam.ca/100.

TAKE A HIKE

The BC branch of the Kidney Foundation hosts its annual Kidney Walk at 10 a.m. at Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (off Pinetree Way). Walk 2.5 km or run five kilometres at the fundraiser that also aims to build awareness of organ donations. Visit tricitieskidneywalk.com.

NICE WHEELS

More than 500 collectible vehicles will be shined up and on show for the annual Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association event, which runs downtown from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be live entertainment and children's activities. PARK MUSIQUE

Christa Couture will play Lions Park (off Lions Way) at 2 p.m. as part of the city of Port Coquitlam's Music in the Park summer series. Visit portcoquitlam.ca. SPLATTER!

Don some old clothes to take part in the second annual ParticiPAINT public art project in Port Coquitlam. People of all ages and artistic abilities can join Kris Kupskay to create a mural on the wall outside of Home Video (3274 Coast Meridian Rd.). Meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Hyde Away Youth Centre (1379 Laurier Ave.) and walk over to the building, which has been targeted by vandals in the past. A BBQ lunch will be provided to participants, who are asked to sign up in advance at Starbucks (1480 Prairie Ave.) or the Hyde Away Youth Centre at the Hyde Creek recreation centre.
