Coquitlam's KMS Tools (110 Woolridge St.) hosts its 7th annual woodshow this weekend, featuring the work of artisans such as canoe builders, carvers and turners. Live seminars - including from Judson Beaumont of Straight Line Designs - will be held every hour, on the hour. Prizes will be handed out and Riverside community church will cooking up lunch to raise cash for its Costa Rican children's school. Call 604-522-5599.

OKTOBERFEST

Douglas College's fall fundraiser, A Class Act, to collect money for student aid will celebrate Bavarian brews and traditional German food for its Oktoberfest party at the David Lam campus (1250 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). The 16th annual event from 7 to 10 p.m. includes live music and auctions with prizes such as a Hard Rock Casino limited edition Fender electric guitar, Canucks tickets and a $1,000 shopping spree at Coquitlam Centre. BIG APPLE

Move your hips at a Zumbathon fundraiser at Coquitlam's Gleneagle secondary school (1195 Lansdowne Dr.) to support the Gleneagle musical theatre department's trip to New York. VAMPIRES

Halloween has already started at two Coquitlam homes. Last week, the G-scale model trains were on show at the Port Moody recreation complex. This weekend, drop by Port Moody city hall (100 Newport Dr.) for the Vancouver TraiNgang centennial exhibition of the N-scale model railroads. The free display runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow.

INDIAN MUSIC

WALK FOR RETT

WELCOME HOME

The salmon will be welcomed home at the Hoy Creek fish hatchery (off Town Centre Boulevard) today from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. at a free-family event, hosted by the city of Coquitlam and the Hoy/Scott Creek Watershed Society. Activities include salmon shows, children's crafts, community group displays and face painting.
