PHILOSOPHER'S CAFE

Are there times when you follow your heart instead of your head, or that either has led you astray? Explore these questions and more at the free Philosopher's Cafe at the PoMo Public Library (100 Newport Dr.) from noon to 1:30 p.m.

SPELLING BEE

Sharpen your pencils, it's time for the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Heritage Woods secondary (1300 David Ave., PoMo). The hit musical runs tonight and Jan. 24. Tickets are $12/$10 at the school or by calling 604-461-8679.

WE HEART HOCKEY

Show the local teams some love and cheer them on to home-ice wins. Tonight, the Coquitlam Express take on the Vernon Vipers at 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam). And on Saturday night, the Port Moody Panthers face off against the Ridge Meadows Flames at 7:45 p.m. at the PoMo Arena (300 Ioco Rd.).

TOONIE TIME

Get the kids going on Valentine's cards at the PoCo Heritage and Cultural Society's event at Heritage at Leigh Square (150-2248 McAllister St., PoCo) for kids aged eight to 12, where they'll make cards and learn about the origins of Valentine's Day. SOFTBALL REGISTRATION

Gear up for the 2015 softball season by registering your children at the Coquitlam Minor Softball Association event today from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Port Moody recreation complex (300 Ioco Rd.). The CMSA opened up its registration last year to include players from Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra and the group is hoping for even more players this year. EMERGING TALENT

Prepare to be blown away at the depth and breadth of artistic talent among the Tri-Cities' Grade 12 art students. The Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) hosts the 18th annual Emerging Talent exhibition, featuring a collection of 2-D and 3-D juried works, as well as the Emerging Talent 4 Festival, featuring 10 original short films.
