SPIDEY VS LIZARD

Port Coquitlam rolls out its giant silver screen for the third time this summer to show The Amazing Spider-Man at Gates Park (located north of Riverside secondary school). The 2012 flick stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as the American superhero (aka Peter Parker) and Gwen Stacy as they fight The Lizard. The event, which is part of the Cinema Under the Stars series, starts at 8:30 p.m. and is sponsored in part by G&F Financial, which is supplying free popcorn and raffle prizes such as super soakers, blankets and movie passes. PLANTS GONE WILD

FREE MUSIC SHOWS

Port Coquitlam's Village Vibe goes for another round at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village with Etienne Siew, a musician who plays a mix blues, classic rock, reggae and pop. He will be followed by Three Chord Renaissance, an alternative pop-rock ensemble. The free music show runs from 2 to 4 p.m. beside PoCo city hall. Visit portcoquitlam.ca/leighsquare.

IN-N-OUT FLICKS

The Port Moody Film Society will host an indoor/outdoor double feature, starting in the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.) at 7:30 p.m. with The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The 2012 movie features Logan Lerman as 15-year-old Charlie coping with his first love (portrayed by Emma Watson), the suicide of his best friend and his own mental illness. And, at 9:30 p.m., the audience will move to the amphitheatre behind city hall for How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, a 2008 comedy based on Toby Young's memoir about a British writer who tries to fit in at a high-profile magazine in New York City. It stars Kelan Pannell, Simon Pegg and Megan Fox. Tickets are $5 per film plus a $5 annual membership fee to the society. Visit pmfilm.ca.

ANNUAL FAIR

Port Moody's Newport Village celebrates its annual Summer Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take in the live entertainment - including children's entertainers Bobs and Lolo at 11 a.m., fiddler Jocelyn Petitt at 12:15 p.m., Michael Buble tribute artist Adam Lucas at 1:30 p.m. and Darren Lee as Elvis at 3 p.m. - and enjoy the many activities for all ages. TOUR THE GROUNDS

The orchestral "dark pop" band The Belle Game - better known as Adam Nanji, Andrea Lo, Alex Andrew, Katrina Jones, and Rob Chursinoff - takes to Port Coquitlam's Lions Park (off Shaughnessy Street) at 2 p.m. as part of the city's Music in the Park series. HELPING OTHERS

Drop off gently used suits - for men and women - at Veracis Meditation and Wellness Centre (86 Moody St., Port Moody) between 1 and 4 p.m. as part of a charity drive for Dress For Success Vancouver. Suits or interview-appropriate attire will be accepted as well as handbags, jewellery, new makeup, unopened pantyhose and shoes in excellent condition.
