Find great gift ideas at the St. Laurence Quality Fair (825 St. Laurence St., Coquitlam), running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offering gift baskets, jewelry, baked goods and silent auction. The Glen Pine Pavilion (1200 Glen Pine Court, Coquitlam) hosts an old-fashioned Christmas Bazaar from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., featuring handmade gifts, knitting and quilts.

SIT WITH SANTA

Christmas arrives early at Coquitlam Centre when Santaland opens for the holiday season today. Let your kids give Santa their wish list early; for every child that visits, Coquitlam Centre will donate a $1 Holiday Heart to one of five local children's charities. Check out the work of some serious photo masters at the annual Photomotion show, a digital slide/sound event produced by the Pacific Digital Photography Club in Port Moody. HURRY HARD

It's time to throw, sweep and hurry hard at the KidSport Funspiel, hosted by the Coquitlam Curling Club (633 Poirier St.) from 5 to 11 p.m. The event includes a cash bar and music, and no experience is necessary. Hear soprano Lambroula Pappas in action at Place des Arts' (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) first faculty concert of the season. Pappas and pianist David Bergeron will take the audience on a musical 'round-the-world trip, featuring operatic pieces from the past 150 years. In addition to being an instructor at Place des Arts, Pappas is also the head of the vocal department at the BC Conservatory of Music. The David Myles Trio swings into Coquitlam tonight, on the heels of bringing the house down in 18 Saskatchewan shows, to play at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way). The trio will be performing songs from their latest album, Into The Sun, which earned Myles the 2012 East Coast Music Association award for Songwriter of the Year. SALMON FEST

It's time to welcome the salmon back to local waters in the 13th annual Hyde Creek Salmon Festival. This event offers fun for the whole family, with a chance to learn about the salmon's life cycle, do some crafts, eat some great food and see the hatchery at work. Raffle prizes include gym memberships, a helicopter tour, a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer and more.
