FOOTBALL STARTS

Port Coquitlam's Terry Fox Ravens open their regular season on home turf against the Rutland Voodoos at 5 p.m. at Town Centre Park (off Pinetree Way). Across town, the Centennial Centaurs challenge St. Thomas More Collegiate at the Coquitlam high school (570 Poirier St.) for their home opener.

GROOVY

A second Zumba session to raise money for The Next MOVEment will be held tonight in Port Moody. Sheila Alwell of the non-profit Dancing 4 a Change is hosting the event at Moody middle school (3115 St. John's St.) at 7 p.m. to help women and children around the world who have been exploited and sold into the sex trade. GET OUT SAFE

Learn how to make an escape plan for you and your family by taking part in a free emergency preparedness course offered by the city of Port Coquitlam. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the city's fire and emergency services will lead attendees through the four areas of staying safe. To register, call 604-927-5466.

LITTERBUG, BE GONE

Meet at 9 a.m. at Noons Creek Hatchery (300 Ioco Rd., Port Moody) - with gloves and boots on - for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, a national program that's being handled locally by the Port Moody Ecological Society. Also make sure to have three shopping bags to clean up the area around the hatchery and Shoreline Park. Visit shorelinecleanup.ca.

FOOD DRIVE

Help out those in need for the BC Thanksgiving food drive, happening at Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave., by the picnic area) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Non-perishable donations are needed for the annual campaign that will be staged in 50 municipalities province-wide. Visit bctfooddrive.org.

HOPE LUTHERAN

Port Coquitlam's Hope Lutheran Church school (3151 York St.) will host a thrift sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. while its harvest fest runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at nearby McLean Park. The latter event will include entertainment, a Tumblebus, slides, bouncy castles, face painting and demonstrations by the Coquitlam Search and Rescue and Sun Hang Do Port Coquitlam. A BBQ lunch will also be for sale.

HOCKEY NIGHT IN TC

Watch the Coquitlam Express Junior 'A' hockey club take on the Langley Rivermen at 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.). Visit coquitlamexpress.ca. HALF MARATHON

CHURCH GOERS

The Ioco Heritage United Church (1790 Ioco Rd.) in Port Moody marks its centennial with a party and reunion from 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Built in 1924 by employees of the new Imperial Oil Company refinery, the church has served as a community landmark. The event is free.

STEWARDS

Hear from environmental experts with the Raincoast Conservation Foundation and the Burke Mountain Naturalists as they present a movie and discussion titled What's At Stake: Movies for an Oil-Free Coast.
