From a morning walk to a zumba night, an afternoon tea to a wine tasting and concerts, fundraisers and food drives in between, there is truly no shortage of things to do this weekend.

FRIDAY, MAY 25

FIND FRIENDS

The Tri-Cities Women's Friendship Club invites local women to its dinner event tonight at 6 p.m. New members are always welcome; call Wendy at 604-468-2423 for more information.

ZUMBA NIGHT

Shake it up for a good cause at I Gave My Heart to Malayah, a zumba night fundraiser for a local family whose three-year-old daughter is about to undergo heart surgery. The event is at Cedar Drive elementary (3150 Cedar Dr., PoCo) from 7 to 8 p.m. and admission is $10/$8.

OVER THE MOON

No, it's not a baby announcement. They'll also play a string quartet piece, Half Wolf Dances Mad in the Moonlight, by Terry Riley. The concert is at the Evergreen Cultural Centre starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35/$30/$15, available at www.evergreenculturalcentre.ca or 604-927-6555.

SATURDAY, MAY 26

WALK ON

Join Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart for his weekly walk, a chance to enjoy the city's great outdoors and maybe even bend the ear of the man in charge. Stewart will be tackling a gentle walk up to the high knoll at Minnekhada Regional Park, stopping to enjoy the magnificent views of Coquitlam and the valley below. Meet at 8 a.m. at the parking lot off Quarry Road.

BRING BOTTLES

The 1st Port Coquitlam Scouts want your bottles, please. Bring them to Kilmer elementary (1575 Knappen St., PoCo) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or, for assured pick-up, call 604-970-2579.

TREASURE HUNTS

Go hunting for the next garage-sale Group of Seven at these two Coquitlam events: the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church sale (1504 Sprice Ave., 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) features yard sale fare and home baking, with money raised going to support work in the Downtown Eastside and local youth; and the Como Lake United Church sale (535 Marmont St., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), where there will be hardware, furniture, toys and more.

SPRING TEA

Sit down for a cuppa tea at the Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary's 13th annual spring tea, at the Parklane Room at the hospital from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tickets are going fast, and are available at the hospital's gift shop.

FOOD DRIVE

Help fill the Share food bank this weekend during the Rotary Generous Hearts Food Drive, taking place at eight Tri-City grocery stores today and tomorrow. All four Rotary clubs have joined forces for the event, and more than 100 shifts will be filled by volunteers eager to fill the food bank's shelves. Participating stores are: Safeway (Sunwood Square and Shaughnessy Station); Thrifty Foods (Austin Station and Suter Brook); Save-On Foods (Pinetree Village and Ottawa Street); and Marketplace IGA (Parkway Boulevard and Ioco Road). You can help out by purchasing tinned meat, peanut butter, canned vegetables or rice and dropping it with Rotary members outside the store.

SIPS TO SAVOUR

Taste wines from the top wineries throughout B.C. at the Best of BC Uncorked wine-tasting festival, running tonight at the PoMo city hall Galleria from 7 to 9:30 p.m. More than 35 local and Okanagan wineries are participating, meaning there will be plenty of red, white and rose to enjoy. There will also be some light snacks available but with so much great wine at your fingertips, organizers recommend eating before you arrive. Tickets are available at www.bcuncorked.ca.

SUNDAY, MAY 27

CADET SWAP

The Port Moody Legion and the army cadets are teaming up for the first annual swap meet fundraiser, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Legion (2513 Clarke St., PoMo). Shop for baked goods, crafts and new and used items, and grab some lunch off the barbecue while you're at it. Proceeds support the cadet corps and veterans at the Legion.

MUSIC FOR KIDS

Here's your chance to learn more about the Music for Young Children program at an open house at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam), running from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Teacher Cindy Sletmoen will be available to answer questions about the program, designed to nurture musicality in kids aged four to nine. Call 604-664-1636 to reserve a spot.
