FRIDAY, Sept. 13 MOVIE NIGHT Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman will be on the big screen at Port Moody city hall (100 Newport Drive) when the PoMo Film Society screens "The Master" tonight in the galleria.

MOVIE NIGHT

Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman will be on the big screen at Port Moody city hall (100 Newport Drive) when the PoMo Film Society screens "The Master" tonight in the galleria. Hoffman plays a character loosely based on Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard in a film that was nominated for four Oscars. Tickets are available beginning at 6:45 p.m. and the theatre doors open at 7:15. Tickets are $5 and the society encourages attendees to purchase a membership for $5. SWIMMING & PIZZA

Young people between the ages of seven and 12 are invited to attend a swim, movie and pizza night at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Ave.) in Port Coquitlam. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. and those who wish to participate can do so for $15 (pre-registration is required at 604-927-PLAY). MARKET MADNESS

Tri-City residents will be able to stock their fridge and pantry at the Port Moody Farmers Market, which takes place between 3 and 7 p.m. at the Port Moody Recreation Complex. SATURDAY, Sept. 14

TREEFEST

The Riverview Hospital grounds will come to life on Saturday when the Riverview Horticultural Society holds its 20th annual Treefest. The event runs between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will feature guided tours of the hospital lands, children's crafts, community artist displays, live music, food and a history tour bus. TRIBUTE

A special tribute and parade celebrating youth and veterans will be held at the Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery in Coquitlam between 2 and 4 p.m. The event will give members of the community an opportunity to meet and get to know some of the veterans that call the Tri-Cities home. The day starts with a parade from the south end of Robinson Street at Appian Way to the Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 p.m. The parade will be followed by a candlelight tribute at 2:30 p.m. and an opportunity for people to meet with veterans and hear their stories will take place at the Legion 263 (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) at 4 p.m. For more information contact the cemetary administration office at 604-927-6020.

GARDEN HARVEST

Gardeners at the Port Moody Police Community Garden (3051 St. Johns St.) will be enjoying the fruits and vegetables of their labour during a Harvest Fest between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. The event will feature live music, food, a raffle and a recipe exchange. For more information contact [email protected].

SAFETY FIRST

Port Moody residents are invited to come learn about personal safety and have fun at the 2013 Personal Safety Fair at the city hall (100 Newport Dr.). The event is free and will run between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., featuring an array of events for people of all ages. There will be food, hot air ballon rides, a distracted driver demo, among other events. All donations will go to the Share Society food bank.

SUNDAY, Sept. 15

RUN FOR TERRY

The 33rd annual Terry Fox run will be kicking off around the world this week and the Tri-Cities will be holding several events to commemorate Terry's legacy. Port Coquitlam will be holding its Hometown Run starting at 10 a.m. in front of the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Avenue) with registration starting at 8 a.m. There is a 2.5 km, 6 km and 10 km route and live music will be performed throughout the day. Coquitlam will be holding its run starting at Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave.) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Port Moody's run also starts at 10 a.m. with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at Rocky Point Park. Runners will have three options to choose from -a 2 km, a 5 km and a 10 km-and participants in all three runs are welcome to walk, run, bike or rollerblade the course.
