Port Moody's Mossom Creek hatchery is on a mission to rebuild after last December's fire. Hear concert and string sounds at the sixth annual Coquitlam District Band Festival today from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the PCT Performance Stage in Rocky Point Park (2800-block of Murray Street). More than 2,000 Tri-City middle and secondary students will perform at the Port Moody park as well as rally against potential cuts by School District 43 to music education programs. The event also includes a show by the Port Moody Community Band.

Help Place Maillardville community centre (1200 Cartier Ave., Coquitlam) send kids to summer camp when it hosts its third annual Step Up for Place Maillardville open house and walk-a-thon fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The open house portion includes free program demos, a hockey tournament, live entertainment, crafts and contests while the walkers/joggers can chose one of three routes available: 1, 2.5 or 5 km.
