FRIDAY, NOV. 2

RED SERGE CLASSIC

The top girls' volleyball teams from throughout B.C. gather in Port Coquitlam this weekend for the 13th annual Red Serge Classic Senior Girls' Volleyball Tournament at Riverside secondary (2215 Reeve St., PoCo). The 10 best teams will be battling for top spot, with plenty of family and friends, school district officials and Coquitlam RCMP members to cheer them on. The action gets underway today at 3:45 p.m. with opening ceremonies (including Mounties in red serge), a speed spike contest and more. Championship finals are Saturday afternoon, followed by the closing ceremonies.

ART SHOW

It's an art extravaganza this weekend as the Port Moody Art Association gears up for its 45th annual exhibition and sale of original art. Get your first glimpse tonight at 7:30 p.m., and head back to the PoMo recreation centre (300 Ioco Rd.) Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a closer look at the 300+ works. There will be everything from adorable miniatures to oversize canvases in a variety of styles and subjects; a special theme section focuses on oceans and waterways. It's a great time to buy a Christmas gift, particularly since there's no HST. Visit www.portmoodyartassociation.com for more information.
