Kick off the month of June with a great mix of arts and culture, outdoor activities, fundraisers and more.

FRIDAY, JUNE 1

DANCE THIS LIFE

The Caulfield School of Dance presents a unique show called This Life, celebrating life in all its stages through dance, song and theatre. Opera star Dr. Gina Oh, as well as Cori Caulfield and other faculty members, perform with special guests including Paula Giroday of the True Heroines and MOVE: the company principal dancer Heather Dotto. There is plenty more, so you may want to catch a couple of the shows running June 1 to 3 at the Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate, PoCo). Shows are at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Buy tickets at www.terryfoxtheatre.com.

SHOW OFF

Cheer on your future mechanic at Centennial secondary's Show and Shine, running from 6 to 9 p.m. at the school's parking lot (Winslow Avenue). Proceeds go to the Geoff McElgunn automotive scholarship award to support students pursuing careers in automotives.

SATURDAY, JUNE 2

LOOK AT LAZULIS

Take a walk through nature and spot lazuli buntings and other migratory songbirds at Colony Farm Regional Park, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The park association and Burke Mountain Naturalists will have experienced birders with spotting scopes on hand to lead the two-hour walks, which are on mostly level ground and suitable for all ages. Bring binoculars if you have them, and meet at the kiosk in the park lot at the end of Colony Farm Road.

DOGS FOR DIABETES

Join the Beveridge family as they raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Rob Beveridge was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of three; a recent islet cell transplant has improved his health dramatically and the family hopes to spread the word - and the wealth - by participating in next week's JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes in Stanley Park. A fundraising car wash/hot dog barbecue with radio station 99.3 The Fox takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Budget Brake and Muffler (819 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) near Ikea.

FOR CLARA

Kids always need new stuff, so drop by a special clothing and toy sale today that will help out the family of a little girl with leukemia. The sale, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is at 1843 Chalmers Ave. in Port Coquitlam. Proceeds will be split between the family of Clara, a five-year-old PoCo girl diagnosed with leukemia in February, and BC Children's Hospital. Donations will also be accepted.

JUST IMAGINE

Bring the wee ones to Kiddies Korner Pre-school (2211 Prairie Ave., PoCo) Imagination Fair, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for pony rides, crafts, games and a show by Mr. I and the Rainbow Singers. There will be clowns, a cake walk, raffles and more. Admission is $5/child and adults get in free. The first 125 kids to arrive also get a Science World admission.

SUNDAY, JUNE 3

TO MARKET

Just across the street from Centennial's festivities (see below) is the Coquitlam Farmer's Market, where the theme is Bike to Market Day. Use alternative transportation to get to the market (in the Dogwood Pavilion parking lot at 624 Poirier St.) and get free Market Bucks. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

AFTER GRAD

Test drive a new Ford at Centennial secondary's after-grad fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The school has partnered with Metro Ford so visitors can take a new Ford for a spin - for every qualifying test drive (one per household, 18+ years old, valid driver's licence), Ford Canada will donate $20 to Centennial's dry after-grad.

ANNIVERSARY WALK

The Riverview Horticultural Centre Society celebrates its 20th anniversary at the Henry Esson Young building at Riverview Hospital, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn about the ongoing Heritage Conservation Plan work and enjoy tea from 12:30 p.m. on, as well as tree walks starting at 1 p.m. A heritage walk is at 2 p.m. and everyone is welcome. For a site map visit www.rhcs.org or call 604-290-9910.

CADET REVIEW

Check out the new recruits at the 754 Phoenix Air Cadet Squadron's 47th annual ceremonial review parade at Dr. Charles Best secondary school (2525 Como Lake Ave., Coquitlam). The parade starts at 1 p.m. and visitors must be seated by 12:45 p.m.
