GREASE IS THE WORD

The always popular musical Grease hits the Evergreen Cultural Centre stage, featuring performers from PoCo's Broadway Bound, until Sunday. Tickets are available at 604-927-6555 or www.evergreenculturalcentre.ca.

Saturday, June 9

HIKE BURKE

Explore Coquitlam's back yard on this free, guided hike with the Burke Mountain Naturalists. The five-hour hike takes in Saw Blade Falls and views of Coquitlam Lake (elevation gain is 250 m on the 8-km hike). Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring a lunch. TAKE A WALK

With Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart through the city's Riverwalk neighbourhood up to Crystal Falls, starting at 8 a.m. from the north end of Shaughnessy Street.

GARAGE GOODIES

Support community projects in Maillardville at the residents' association garage sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1007 Alderson Ave., Coquitlam. Stay for the hot dog barbecue, homemade chili, bake sale and live French-Canadian music.

GOOD FILMS

Trinity United Church (2211 Prairie Ave., PoCo) has a line-up of movies that are good and do good at the same time in this year's Social Justice Film Festival, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is by donation, and lunch is $6.

GO BALD OR GO HOME

It's a carnival, it's a barbecue, it's a firefighter car wash, it's a vintage car show, a head shave and more. The Balding for Dollars event at Cedar Drive elementary (3150 Cedar Dr., PoCo) from noon to 4 p.m. Money raised goes to the oncology department at BC Children's Hospital in memory of Jakob Slater, who died at the age of six from a brain tumour.

YOUNG ACTORS

Check out tomorrow's film stars when students from the Young Actors Project show off their short films and plays at the Port Moody Inlet Theatre at 12:30, 4 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $9, available by calling 604-318-0881. Visit www.youngactorsproject.ca for more information.

SING IT

Kick off the Teddy Bear Picnic festivities with a free children's concert at Town Centre Park from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., featuring the beloved children's entertainer Charlotte Diamond, followed by Mike Battie, the Kokoma African Heritage Ensemble and more.

TOUR DE POCO

Learn about Port Coquitlam's fascinating history on the second annual Tour de Poco, starting at 11 a.m. from the parking lot in Lions Park (rain or shine). Cycle through PoCo's northside neighbourhoods on this nearly three-hour tour, with stops to check out points of historical interest along the way. Get more information at www.pocoheritage.org.

EXOTIC DANCE

Enjoy A Night in the Sun when Kalaya presents an evening featuring Polynesian and Latin dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa and Spain. Proceeds from the event at Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate, PoCo) at 1:30 p.m. go to the Maragua Girls' School in East Africa, as well as to World Vision.
