The annual Port Moody Arts Festival is already underway, and tonight you can Experience Slovakia at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.). Immerse yourself in the culture of this charming nation, with the award-winning Slovakian mime/actor/comedian Adrian Ohradka of Teater Komika. LET THE FUN BEGIN

Gear up for Halloween at the Art Knapp's Funland (1300 Dominion Ave., PoCo), where there are loads of rides, spooky scenes and a haunted tunnel. The fun continues seven days a week until Oct. 31; visit www.artknapps.ca.

Saturday, Sept. 22

CLEAN UP TIME

It's time to roll up your sleeves and get in the muck for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup at Noons Creek, from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring bread-size bags if you have them and meet at the hatchery on Ioco Road (Klahanie residents meet at the Canoe Club at 8:45 a.m.). CAR WASH

Pitch in for the kids - and get your car washed - at the Cedar Drive elementary (1976 Prairie Ave., PoCo) school car wash and bake sale, from noon to 4 p.m. Donations support Cedar Drive's Grade 5 camp.

ART 4 YOUTH

Calling all kids and teens, it's the annual Art 4 Youth Day at the Rocky Point's skate park (2800 Murray St., PoMo). From noon to 4 p.m. there will be a BMX stunt show, skateboard demos, a youth music competition and even a youth artisan fair. Check out the free henna tattoos, face painting and loads of hands-on art activities. Everything is free.

JUBILEE TEA

The PoCo Heritage and Cultural Society welcomes everyone for a free cuppa at the Diamond Jubilee tea, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wilson Centre (2150 Wilson Ave., PoCo). There will be goodies, trivia quizzes, games and more. Get free tickets (seating limited) at the Wilson Centre desk.

DO YOU TAEKWON-DO?

Check out this fascinating martial art at the Triumph Taekwon-Do (1515 Broadway St., PoCo) open house, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., where there will be free self-defence seminars for youth and adults, demonstrations and board breaking, free classes, hot dogs, prizes and a bouncy castle.

FESTIVAL GALA

It's the gala opening for the Port Moody Arts Festival, and the line-up will have the crowd wowed from start to finish. Kicking it off at 7 p.m. at the Inlet Theatre is Cole Armour, a 13-year-old Langley teen with a soulful voice far beyond his years, followed by Téa and her signature "city soul" sound. TAKE A STROLL

Did you know September is myeloma awareness month? Learn more about it and join others at the Stroll for a Cure at Coquitlam Town Centre Park. FAMILY DAY

Always a PoMo Arts Festival favourite, Art 4 U - Family Day combines thrilling entertainment - including the Brazilian martial arts dance by Axé Capoeira and music by The Knots, Sonic Boom A Cappella, Mark Fossen, Chico & Tim and Tammy Pilon - with hands-on art activities like Raku U (clay pottery), instructors' art demonstrations and more.
