The Tri-City News is a finalist for two national newspaper awards, it was announced this week.
On the list of the top nominees for the 2012 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards are:
Tri-City News reporter Diane Strandberg is one of three finalists for the Outstanding Reporter Initiative Award (circulation 10,000 and over) for "Caution: Bears in Area," a seven-month series of articles last year on issues related to bears in the Tri-Cities. The other two finalists are: Stacey Colwell of The Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin in Nova Scotia and Jeff Nagel, Black Press' Lower Mainland's regional reporter, for his series "Justice Delayed," on the causes and effects of delays in B.C.'s justice system.
Photographer James Maclennan is a finalist for Best Feature Photo (circ. 12,500 and over), for his photo (above) from Remembrance Day ceremonies in Port Coquitlam last fall. The other finalists are: Tyler Garnham of the South Delta Leader (another Black Press paper) and April Bartlett of St. Albert Gazette in Alberta.
Awards winners will be announced during the INK+BEYOND newspaper conference in April in Toronto.
