A Tri-City theatre group and a Coquitlam fitness instructor are teaming up for a fundraiser next Friday in memory of Amanda Todd.
Theatrix Youtheatre Society is hosting a Zumba fundraiser and donating the proceeds to the Amanda Todd Legacy Fund, which was set up with the Vancouver Foundation. Despite growing awareness about the potentially devastating consequences of bullying, advocates working to combat the problem say they're badly in need of financial support.
Todd is the 15-year-old Port Coquitlam girl who committed suicide last month, some time after posting a video to YouTube chronicling her struggles with bullying.
The Zumba fundraiser, led by certified instructor Andrea Raybould, runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 30 in the gym at Glen elementary school, 3064 Glen Dr., Coquitlam. It's open to anyone 13 or older, and tickets cost $10 each. In addition to a Zumba workout from 7 to 8 p.m., the fundraiser will also have a raffle and silent auction featuring donated items.
