LETTER: Attorney General David Eby's proposed ICBC changes are justified

Dear editor:

Re: No-fault Insurance a Move in the Right Direction for ICBC, Feb. 7 editorial viewpoint.

To my mind, B.C. Attorney General David Eby is to be supported in the ICBC changes he proposes.

There is no justification for the legal profession charging, as fees, any proportion of the compensation payable to persons suffering injuries in vehicle accidents.

There would likewise be no justification for contingency fees to be claimed by attending physicians.

As an alternative to the AG's proposal, the right given to lawyers by statute in the 1960s to charge contingency fees could be limited to claims other than for compensation for injuries suffered in motor vehicle accidents.
