Dog Fancy is a monthly magazine that always has plenty of beautiful pictures. Each issue profiles three breeds of dog, offers tips on training certain skills, gives advice on grooming and health, and is rounded out by interesting articles.

James Herriot practised veterinary medicine in the 1930s in Yorkshire, England. James Herriot's Favorite Dog Stories contains short stories of the famous vet's experiences with dogs and their owners. Heart-warming, wonderful and at times humourous, these stories are a joy to read. His accuracy and wit writing about people's relationships with their dogs is priceless.

For help with selecting your future best friend, you will find good information on the library shelves. If you are looking for DVDs, try Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan. Seasons of this television show reveal some of the challenges that people have with their dogs and show how to correct them. Enjoy this popular National Geographic Channel show and pick up some tips and techniques at the same time. Millan has been called a Dr. Phil for dogs, and you might find yourself understanding your canine friend better after watching.
