Friends of the Terry Fox Library book sale: It's time to stock up on summer reading material at TFL. Volunteers from the Friends of the Library will be setting up and staffing the book sale, with proceeds going toward Library programming, equipment and furniture. You can check out awesome deals on some great reads on Saturday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And if you're thinking of volunteering, it's an opportunity to meet some great people and share your special skills and work together to support your local library.

Tutors for adult learners/ESL adults: CPL has a small group of tutors who work with adults, attending beginner level Transitions/ESL classes at Coquitlam Continuing Education. For more info, contact Janice at the library, 604 937-4140. As well, Coquitlam Continuing Education has a list of tutors (fee-based, standard rates), phone: 604 936-4261. The library does not keep a list of private tutors.

Library tours: CPL staff members regularly gives library tours to ELSA and ESL classes. To book a class tour, contact Janice Williams at 604-937-4140, or email [email protected].

Write Something Delicious: I Was Told There'd Be Cake (the review blog on the CPL website) is looking for new authors with fresh opinions. Library patrons are wanted to tell librarians their latest reads, favourite movies or anything else they've found in the library that tickles their fancy. You can submit posts to [email protected]. Patrons who have sent us reviews can come into the library for a free book bag.

New kids' series: Kids can find their favourite book series quickly and easily with PMPL's new paperback series collection. From Geronimo Stilton to the Rainbow Magic Fairies, all the most popular paperback series titles are now together in one central location. Kids can come in and browse this new, incredibly popular collection, and read all about their favourite characters' newest adventures.

Read Canadian: May 5 to 15 is Canadian Children's Book Week. Join the nation-wide celebration and introduce children to some uniquely Canadian books. Find picture books, novels and amazing non-fiction to help kids learn about Canada, from sea to shining sea. Library displays will highlight the best in Canadian Children's literature all week and children's librarians are ready to offer expert help in finding that perfect book.

Travel tips: If you're planning a trip, load up your tablet, phone or e-reader with library e-books before you go. Find the best restaurant in town with an e-guidebook or wile away the hours with a sizzling beach read. Never pay late fines again and enjoy how light your luggage is without a stack of paperbacks for the plane. Need help loading up? Ask us Port Moody librarians.
