The Chocolate Farmer: A National Film Board of Canada Documentary: The second showings of this documentary will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Poirier branch. Filmed over a year, The Chocolate Farmer bears witness to one man's struggle with the forces of globalization. In a remote corner of southern Belize, Eladio Pop organically farms cacao in the tradition of his Mayan ancestors. He tells a cautionary tale and bares his soul to remind viewers of the precarious balance between human beings and the environment. Mouse skills: If you need to learn how to use a computer mouse, this is the class for you. Librarians will go over the proper way to move the mouse, click, scroll, and more using exercises designed to teach and improve these skills. Vancouver Paranormal Society: An Introduction to Modern Ghost Hunting: This runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the City Centre branch. Birthday Bonanza: Terry Fox Library turned 30 this year and the city of Port Coquitlam turned 100. Celebrate both birthdays at one big birthday party on Friday, Oct. 25 with magician Tricky Ricky, who will kick off the party at 11:30 a.m. At 12:15 p.m., join the library's kazoo orchestra and perform the Happy Birthday song, followed by birthday cake.
Kids Day Off Movie Matinee: Looking for something to do on the School District 43 pro-D day next Friday? Young people can visit Fox for a movie matinee showing of the animated adventure Wreck-It Ralph from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The next pro-D day matinee is Nov. 29.

How do you connect to your library?: Celebrate Canadian Library Month at PMPL by telling librarians how you connect to your library. Fill out a short form anytime in October and enter a draw to win book prizes. This draw is open to adults and children of all ages. Winners will be announced Nov. 1.
Internet Basics (registration required): On Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. or 7 to 8:30 p.m., you can learn what you need to know to access the internet. This class covers the basic toolbar buttons, terminology, printing and searching techniques. Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required.
Baby Sing and Learn (drop-in): Parents or caregivers and their children from birth to age 18 months can drop-in to Baby Sing and Learn sessions on Wednesday afternoons or Thursday mornings. This is an interactive program of songs, rhymes and stories that encourages bonding and promotes early speech and language development. And there is time for adult conversation afterward. Wednesday sessions are from 2 to 2:45 p.m. and run through Dec. 11; Thursday sessions are from 11 to 11:45 a.m. through Dec. 12.
