PORT MOODY

Consumer Reports: Want to make informed purchases? PMPL has paid the subscription fee to the online version of this highly respected, independent consumer review magazine (it also has the print copy available for in-library use). All you need is your library card to access this great online source for free from home or in the library. Check out the latest reviews for small and large appliances, electronics, toys and baby products, cars and much more. Just go to the Port Moody library website to get started.

Spelling Bee: Registration starts Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. for Grade 4 and 5 students who want to test their spelling skills at PoMo's annual contest. The spelling bee will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Inlet Theatre and space is limited. In-person registration is required at the library.

Play and Learn Panels: Are your pre-schoolers feeling cooped up by the rainy weather? Then drop by the library. It has a fabulous collection of children's materials, great programs and a fun set of activities kids can do year round. Ten interactive learning panels purchased with a provincial Literacy Equity grant provide imaginative hands-on learning for young children. Little fingers can't seem to resist turning the Spin-A-Story panel, "finger painting" on a heat-sensitive blackboard, spelling with the magnetic letter board or manipulating an interactive song panel honing alphabet knowledge and fine motor skills as they play.

TERRY FOX

Coffee Mug Club: Terry Fox Library's book club helps connect book lovers with one another. Participants can meet new people, explore new authors and share reading ideas. Members are currently reading A Box of Matches by Nicholson Baker, a diary-like account of a father who gets up early every morning, lights a fire with a single match and thinks about what matters. Baker has the ability to describe ordinary life in a beautiful way, reminding readers of how to appreciate simple things that we might take for granted. The club meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month and the next meeting is Nov. 28 from 7 yo 8 p.m. New members are always welcome.

For more information, visit www.fvrl.bc.ca or the Fraser Valley Regional Library Facebook page. Terry Fox Library is located 2470 Mary Hill Rd. in PoCo. Phone 604-927-7999.
