Hunger Games Yepardy: This quiz contest, based on the popular novel and movie, is for teams of two to four kids in Grades 6 to 12 and will be held next Thursday, March 22 in the program room at the City Centre branch from 2 to 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for top team and best costumes. Children's Theatre: Do you have a child in Grades 3 to 5 who loves the stage? In this free after-school program, kids work with teens to develop a short play, from script to performance. It runs from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays from March 29 to May 31 in the Program Room at the City Centre branch. Early Childhood Education collection: While in the library for storytime or other reasons, parents can check out PMPL's early childhood education collection. This collection has books about child development, language learning and much more. Professionals will be interested in technical titles about childcare philosophies and practice while parents may enjoy reading up on brain-boosting baby and toddler games, or fun learning activities to try at home. Ask a librarian for directions on how to find this excellent collection.
Play and Learn panels: There is a fun set of activities kids can do year round in the PMPL children's area: 10 interactive learning panels purchased with a provincial Literacy Equity grant provide imaginative hands-on learning for young children. Little fingers can't seem to resist turning the Spin-A-Story panel, finger "painting" on the heat-sensitive blackboard, spelling with the magnetic letter board or manipulating an interactive song panel honing alphabet knowledge and fine motor skills as they play.
