Think pink: CPL is hosting a screening of the documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc. next Thursday, Oct. 4 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Where does the money raised in the name of breast cancer go and what does it achieve? Has the devastating reality of breast cancer become lost in a shiny, pink story of success? Phone 604-937-4155 to register for this free program.

Living Library: Presented by CPL and Douglas College, the Living Library is your opportunity to have a 20-minute, one-on-one talk with someone who has had different life experiences than your own. This latest edition runs tomorrow (Sept. 29) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Poirier branch. Registration is not required for this free program. Food bank drive: Homelessness Action Week in B.C. runs from Oct. 11 to 17 and Coquitlam Public Library is having a food bank drive throughout the month of October. Bring non-perishable food next time you visit the library.

Databases for children: Would your kids like to learn English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian or Italian? Try Muzzy Languages. Use your library card to log in to the database page, and click on Muzzy Languages to start learning.

You can download these books to your laptop computer, Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, MP3 player Kobo or Sony eReader. Not sure where to start with eBooks? Join staff at the Terry Fox Library for a discussion of eReaders and a demonstration of how to download eBooks. Bring your eReader and your questions on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2 to 3 p.m.

PORT MOODY

French immersion: Starting or returning to school can seem overwhelming, particularly to a child in a French immersion program for the first time. The library can help make this transition easier. It has lots of materials in French to support children and their families. You can borrow book and CD kits, language learning kits, DVDs, chapter books and novels or even music CDs. Come and check out the collection and get your child off to a good start in a new language.

Festival of the Arts, Festival of Stories: On Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m., PMPL's Fireside Reading Room will come alive with the art of storytelling. Acclaimed B.C. storyteller Abegael Fisher-Lang will entertain with interactive tales from around the world. These entrancing stories are perfect for families with children aged five to eight years.
