Ariel: A film showing in celebration of International Day of People with Disability is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 in the Nancy Bennett Room at the Poirier branch. This documentary (95 minutes, in Spanish with English subtitles) tells the story of Ariel, who, at the age of 33, had his legs were shredded by an industrial dough mixer in Argentina. From that point on, Ariel set out to rebuild his broken identity, keep his family together and design his own artificial legs. This story of healing and transformation is an introspective journey tinged with touches of magic realism. To register for this free program, leave a message on the registration line, 604-937-4155.

Seniors' Christmas Tea: Memories, Songs and Stories: Share Christmas memories with other seniors and library staff over tea, coffee and goodies from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 in the Nancy Bennett Room at the Poirier branch. Participants will enjoy Christmas carol sing-alongs, Christmas trivia games, book prizes and poinsettia giveaways. Youth and Social Media: Is your elementary or middle school child using social media? Is it safe? Parents are invited to an informative evening hosted by the Port Moody Police Department and Communities Embracing Restorative Justice on Nov. 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Inlet Theatre. No registration is required.

Buying the right eReader or tablet: Does your Christmas gift list include an eReader or tablet? On Nov. 27 from 7 to 8 p.m., you can learn the pros and cons of each type of device and how to choose the best one for your needs. Space is limited - call 604-469-4577 to reserve a seat.

Final Tech Café session for the season: This is your last chance to sit down with one of PMPL's friendly and knowledgeable teen volunteers for free one-on-one help with your basic computer questions. Drop in to the ParkLane Room on Friday, Nov. 28 between 4:30 and 6 p.m. for help with a variety of technology basics such as email, smartphones, texting, Microsoft Office and more.

Crime Writers' Panel: Three local authors will explain what goes into writing believable murder mysteries and thrillers, and answer all the questions that you're just dying to ask at a presentation Dec. 6 presented by Tri-City Wordsmiths, a local writing group that meets at Terry Fox Library six times a year. The panelists are: Stefano Mazzega, an RCMP forensic scientist; Derrick Carew, a social worker at Colony Farm Forensic Psychiatric Institution and author of The Killer Trail (2014); and Owen Laukkanen, a former poker player and author of The Professionals (2012), Criminal Enterprise (2013) and Kill Fee (2014). Registration is appreciated for this program, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m.
