Frankenweenie: See Tim Burton's animated adventure about a boy who brings his beloved dog back to life (running time 87 minutes, rated G); for families with children six years old and up. Some scenes in the film may frighten young children. Seating is limited. Please arrive early to guarantee yourself a seat in Room 136 at the City Centre branch, Monday, Oct. 27, 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Communication Skills for New Immigrants: On Monday, Oct. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the City Centre Branch, Rooms 136 and 137, David Wood of Coquitlam Alliance Church will offer practical tips on how to start basic conversations in English, and how to communicate with people who do not speak your language. Registration is required for this free program; phone 604 468-6000 or email [email protected]. Participants must bring proof of permanent residency (PR card, letter from CIC, etc.).

Winning Job Interviews: Lessen the fear of interviews and let your strengths shine through. Learn how to answer the challenging interview questions and secure a new job. On Thursday, Oct. 23 from 7 to 8 p.m., join expert presenters from Training Innovations who will be on hand to answer questions and provide personal feedback. Call the library to register or for more information.

Tech Café: Sit down with one a teen volunteer for free one-on-one help with your basic computer questions. Drop in to the ParkLane Room on Fridays through Nov. 28 between 4:30 and 6 p.m. for help with a variety of technology basics such as email, smartphones, texting, Microsoft Office and more.

Computer Basics for Absolute Beginners: Join the last in a series of Thursday afternoon classes on Oct. 23 at the library to get yourself feeling comfortable using your home computer or laptop. Class runs from 2 to 3 p.m. Space is limited, so call 604 469-4577 to reserve a seat.

Choose your own Misadventure: Kids aged six to 12 years can drop into the library for special pro-day fun on Friday, Oct. 24 from 1 to 3 pm. There are limited drop-in spaces.

The Mystery of the Great Northwest Flood: Experience one of the most fascinating geologic stories ever told at Terry Fox Library. In eastern Washington State, a profound and unique geological event occurred just as the ice age was coming to an end. It has shaped the landscape over a vast area, resulting in unique geological formations that have been puzzling scientists for years. PoCo photographer Steve Smith recounts his journey to unravel this fascinating mystery with beautiful photos on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is recommended.
