BOOKS PLUS: Learning apps for kids, foreign credentials info and play time with Tri-City libraries

PORT MOODY

Philosopher's Café: Alienation/Belonging: Where do you belong? What do you find alienating? On March 27 from 12 to 1:30 p.m., you can join Michael Picard from SFU\Douglas College for an informal exploration of these questions. Philosopher's Cafes are free, public events sponsored by SFU Continuing Studies. This event takes place in the ParkLane Room at PMPL - drop-in, no registration required.

Best learning apps for kids: On March 28 from 2 to 3 p.m., you can find out about some of the best educational apps for Apple and Android devices and learn how to select apps for your kids. Space is limited so call 604-469-4577 to register.

Preschool storytime (drop-in): Join PoMo librarians on Wednesday mornings until May 6 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. for preschool storytime. Children aged two to five years of age with their parents/caregivers will enjoy songs, stories and language games.

Foreign credentials loan recognition: Do you have a degree or specialty from your home country that isn't recognized in Canada? On Monday, March 23 from 7 to 8 p.m., employment experts from SUCCESS will be at PMPL to provide free advice on how to upgrade credentials and find low-interest loans to help you get a job in your field. This info session is drop-in, no registration required.

Your card, your choice: Tri-City residents aged 13 years and older are invited to vote for their favourite design for the next generation Port Moody Public Library adult library card. You can choose between three images created by local artists and vote for your favourite design at library.portmooody.ca/designacard or in person at the library through March 28. Patient rights - advance care planning: Did you know the Canadian Medical Association recommends everyone develop an advance care plan? Knowing your rights as a patient is an important part of this process. You can join Dying with Dignity Canada at Terry Fox Library on April 20 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for an informative program about your rights and how you can plan for your future medical care. Registration is appreciated.

Songs plus: Songs, music and crafts for people of all ages with developmental challenges are part of a fun program hosted by community services librarian Teresa Rehman in the Nancy Bennett Room of the Poirier branch from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on March 25. Arts and crafts: Are you an artist or a crafter based in the Tri-Cities? Coquitlam Public Library is inviting local artists, craftspeople and historical groups to exhibit their pieces in display cases at both the Poirier and City Centre branches. Displays should be of general interest to the community and are limited to works of an artistic nature, crafts, artifacts and archival materials. Play and Learn at Coquitlam Centre: On the last Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., parents and young children can join librarians at Coquitlam Centre mall (lower level, in front of the Hudson's Bay) for Play and Learn storytimes, songs and crafts. The theme on March 25 is "Spring Fling."
