Play & Learn Events at Coquitlam Centre: Last Wednesday of each month on the lower level in front of the Bay from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for storytimes, songs and crafts. On Wednesday, Sept. 26 our storytime topic will be Fabulous Fall.

Thursday Evening at the Movies: Now showing: Fascinating documentaries from the National Film Board of Canada! On Thursday, Sept. 27 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m., Poirier Branch, Nancy Bennett Room. See The Boxing Girls of Kabul (52 min). Courageous Afghan women follow their dream of being boxers-training without basic facilities and risking persecution. Improve Your Learning Curve: Fall brings a new school year and learning new skills seems to be on many people's minds. Whether you are in formal schooling or self-learning the library has a fabulous resource for you. Learning Express Library is available to you for free online with your library card and a computer/laptop. Don't have a computer? Come in and use one of ours.

Learning Express Library allows you to learn at your own pace through online tutorials on a variety of topics - from elementary school subjects all the way through to college level courses. It also has skill building for adults, GED preparation, training on software products, ESL exercises, preparation for Canadian Citizenship exams and career help. Read with a Buddy: The Buddy System Works! - registration required: Parents and kids aged 6-10 who participated in our past Book Buddies programs have commented on the terrific value of this reading help program. Many of these children improved their reading skills by sharing books, word games and other fun activities with our Teen Buddies. Now your grade 2-4 child can benefit from this free program. The next session of the program is on Saturdays, Oct. 20-Dec. 15 at 10-10:45 a.m. or 11-11:45 a.m. Registration begins on Sept. 24 and all reading levels are welcome.

Celebrate Festival of the Arts at our Free Festival of Stories - drop-in: Sunday, Sept. 30 from 1:30-3 p.m. our Fireside Reading Room will come alive with the art of storytelling. Acclaimed B.C. storyteller Abegael Fisher-Lang will entertain us with interactive tales from around the world. These entrancing stories are perfect for families with children aged 5-8. T

This event will be topped off with refreshments.

Terry Fox

The Cariboo Gold Rush and the story of Barkerville: Here's a chance to enjoy an afternoon of authentic history and grand entertainment while traveling back to a very different time when thousands of voyagers transformed the B. C. wilderness. Join B.C. historian John Mitchell at the Terry Fox Library as he shares the personal stories of an intriguing cast of colourful characters from all walks of life, as well as pictures of the Cariboo Gold Rush and Barkerville Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1-3 p.m.
