Puppet-making Workshop for children aged six and older: Making your own puppet is easier than it seems and is fun, too. Library experts will show you the steps to follow to make a stick puppet, paper bag puppet and finger puppet. Space is limited so call to register. Workshops run: Tuesday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Poirier branch (register at 604-937-4142) and Thursday, March 15, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the City Centre branch (register at 604-927-3561, Ext. 4).

Protect What Matters Most: March 24 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the board room of the Poirier branch, financial advisor James Leung (CFP, FCSI, CSWP) will provide a foundational knowledge of the most important types of insurance for people with children. Those who also have ageing parents that may require care in the near future are especially encouraged to attend.Find out about life insurance, disability insurance, critical illness insurance, and long-term care insurance.Please phone 604-937-4155 to register for this free program.

Purple Pirate Spring Break Special: The Purple Pirate is coming to Terry Fox Library during spring break, hunting for treasure and first mates to help. A first mate must like magic, laughter and reading. Bring the whole family to the library to enjoy the comedy and mystery of the high seas with the Purple Pirate on Wednesday, March 14 from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Admission is free.

Inlet Book Club: New members are welcome - just drop in - at this book discussion group, which meets in the ParkLane Room from 1 to 3 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. At the March 7 meeting, the book discussed will be Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. The award-winning Canadian author again shows her storytelling prowess in this gripping and disturbing vision of a post-apocalyptic world.

Cracking the Dementia Code: Visit PMPL on Wednesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. for an interactive learning session facilitated by Karen Tyrell. This session will provide caregivers of those with dementia some useful, easy techniques that can be used on a daily basis. Space is limited, so call 604-469-4577 to register.

Baby Sing and Learn drop-in: Parents and caregivers can sing, rhyme and play with their babies in this interactive literacy program. Join librarians in the Storytelling Circle on Mondays at 11 a.m. or Thursdays at 2 p.m. for a half-hour of fun. Research shows that sharing songs and rhymes with your baby helps brain development, attachment, and language skills. English language learners and parents of multiples are particularly encouraged to attend.
