Design-a-Card Contest: Attention all young artists, CPL wants your help to create a new design for its children's library cards. If your design wins the Design-a-Card contest, it will be on the new library card for kids. The contest is open to children aged 12 years old and younger. In addition to the honour of designing the new library card for children, the first-place winner will receive $100 (second place will get $50 and third place, $25). Play and Learn: Play and Learn events are held the last Wednesday of each month at Coquitlam Centre, on the lower level in front of the Bay, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: storytimes, songs and crafts. The theme for Oct. 30 is "Nocturnal Animals." No registration is required for these free programs, just drop-in.
Email class: You must already know how to scroll, click and use the address bar in a web browser to go to a website to take this free class, and you should also only sign up if you do not have an email account. In this class, to be held Oct. 30 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Poirier branch, participants will sign up for an account (for free) on Gmail, and will learn how to send, receive and reply to an email. Registration is required as space is limited; call the reference desk at 604-937-4144.

Tech Café: Friendly and knowledgeable teen volunteers are back at your library to provide free one-on-one help with your basic computer questions. Drop in to the ParkLane Room on Fridays through Dec. 13 between 4 and 5:30 p.m. for help with a variety of technology basics such as email, smartphones, texting, eReaders, Microsoft Office and more.
Twilight Tales (drop-in): PMPL invites kids from birth to six years of age with parents or caregivers to drop in on the last Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7 p.m. to join librarians for a relaxing half-hour of stories, songs and more in the Storytelling Circle. The next Twilight Tales is on Oct. 29.
How do you connect to your library?: You have until the end of October to celebrate Canadian Library Month at PMPL by telling librarians how you connect to your library. Fill out a short form and enter a draw to win book prizes - and you can enter more than once. This draw is open to adults and children of all ages. Winners will be announced Nov. 1.

Things that Go Bump in the Night: Ghosts, goblins and ghouls! What are you scared of? Spooky ghost stories, creepy Halloween games and frightening snacks destined to put you on edge. Wear your costume if you dare. This program for children ages seven and older only runs Tuesday, Oct. 29, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is ongoing.
Wedding tips: Shanna and Sara from LivingSimplicity Professional Organizing and Event Planning will walk you through their 10 easy steps to planning your wedding day from 7 yo 8 p.m. on Nov. 13. Along with a stress-free approach to planning, they will introduce you to local vendors to support you throughout the planning process.
