Walk to find a cure and prevent kidney disease during the Walk for Life around Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam Sunday, Aug. 21.

People with kidney disease, dialysis patients, their family, friends and other supporters are encouraged to take part in either a 2.5K walk or 5K fun run with the goal of raising $15,000.

This is the third year for the Tri-Cities walk, said spokesperson Judith Thompson, and she hopes to see a large crowd for the event.

"Each year it grows a little bit," Thompson said.

According to information from the Kidney Foundation of Canada, more than 36,000 Canadians are living with kidney failure or are undergoing treatment or living with a kidney transplant.

In the Fraser Health Authority, which includes the Tri-Cities, approximately 919 people are on dialysis and 2156 are in pre dialysis.

Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.
