The 12th annual Ioco Days in Port Moody got a boost in funding this week thanks to the federal government.

On Monday, Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore, the MP for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam, announced the Port Moody Heritage Society will receive $4,900 for the festival, which runs Oct. 6 to 14.

The funding comes through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program.

The free family event draw more than 2,000 to see actors re-enact scenes from Ioco life of years past in tribute to the living history of the community, originally a townsite for an Imperial Oil Company refinery.

Founded in the late 1960s, the society is a non-profit group that promotes interest i the history of Port Moody through exhibits, programs and activities.

"The Port Moody Heritage Society very much appreciates the support of the government of Canada," president Robert Simons said in a news release. "It enables us to host a grassroots community festival that celebrates and promotes our heritage."

Meanwhile, the provincial government announced this week it had provided $25,000 to the village of Anmore for its 25th anniversary celebrations on Ma Murray Day, which happened on Sunday.
