Two Tri-City actors are part of a rarely performed Stephen Sondheim musical called The Frogs, playing in Vancouver next week.

Justin D Lapena of Coquitlam and Sonora Szozei, a Port Moody resident, are in the Applause! Musicals Society show that runs June 13 to 15 at Pyatt Hall (843 Seymour St.).

The musical was adapted by Sondheim and Burt Shevelove from The Frogs, an Ancient Greek comedy penned by Aristophanes that was first performed in 1974 in the swimming pool at Yale University.

Lapena, who is in the Greek chorus, is entering his third year of Capilano University's musical theatre program. His recent credits include Agwe in Once on This Island (Uncle Randy Productions); Pierre in The Boyfriend (Exit 22); and Rapunzel's Prince in Into The Woods (Arbutus Studio). And this summer he will be performing in Riverview High: The Musical (Entrance Theatre).

Also in the Greek chorus is Szoczei, who recently worked as assistant director for Heritage Woods secondary's musical theatre program. Her credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Godspell (Christ Church Cathedral); Cut Piece (Port Moody Arts Festival); Ashgirl (Metfest); and The Surreal Project 2 (SHIFT).
