A visual treat for les enfants

Tri-City kids can expect to be bombarded with colours, movement and images when they enter The Studio, at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre on Sunday.

The Studio is the name of the dance and visual arts show by the Quebec company Bouge de là and the brainchild of choreographer Hélène Langevin.

"I teach creative dance to kids and I like to work with their imaginations and give them some sensations and magic to play with," she said last week.

Langevin said she was inspired by the works of artists Jean Dubuffet, Sonia Delaunay, Jackson Pollock and Rene Magriette to produce her multimedia piece.

And her dancers - Audrey Bergeron, Nicolas Labelle, Jean-Francois Legare and Jessica Serli - play in The Studio to make tableaux in constant motion. "Everything is always moving," she said, "which is good because kids' attention span is always short."

Langevin said The Studio is typically performed before school-aged audiences; however, she's had toddlers as young as two years old view The Studio "and they have so much fun because the sets and lighting always change. They are never bored."

Tickets to The Studio on April 12 at 3 p.m. at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) are $16 for adults, $12 for a child or $10 per ticket for a family of four.
