Alma is a veteran thief and has brought Phyllis along to steal steaks.

But when the pair get caught by security guards, Alma is smooth while Phyllis is in hysterics as they try to sweet talk their way out of criminal prosecution.

That’s the premise for The Shoplifters, a play written and directed by Morris Panych for the Arts Club Theatre Company that stops this and next month at Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) while on a Lower Mainland tour.

The company’s first show in Coquitlam on Jan. 28 includes a chat at 7:15 p.m. while, on Jan. 30, there will be a talk-back with the cast afterwards (Evergreen has also added another show date: Jan. 31 at 4 p.m.).
