The Art Focus Artists' Association presents artist Stephen Cheng in an acrylics demonstration next week. Cheng has been a professional artist for 35 years and is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, as well as the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists.The free demonstration is on April 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Outlet at Leigh Square (2253 Leigh Square, PoCo). POETRY LAUNCH

Coquitlam writer Nicole Breit is launching her debut poetry collection I Can Make a Life later this month. The book of poems was a finalist for the first annual Mary Ballard poetry competition; it describes Breit's journey to have her son and explores the impacts of fertility treatments, miscarriage, pregnancy and childbirth.
